The Beaches of Cabo

Many people head to Cabo for the party atmosphere, but the sun and scenery cannot be ignored. In fact, sunbathing could easily be described as one of the main events, especially in areas such as Playa del Amor and Playa Solmar. That is not to say that all of the best sunbathing beaches are the best for swimming. While Playa del Amor is noted for swimming, it is Playa Medano where the safest days in the waves can be enjoyed.

If you were looking strictly to visit the best beaches, those with good waves, amenities and location, the top would have to include:

Costa Azul

Close to the famous Zippers restaurant, it is a true white sand beach that is ideal for the surfing enthusiast.

Playa Migrino

The beach is on the Pacific and is quiet, secluded and a perfect spot for those who want to ride horseback on the beach, enjoy a quiet picnic and take in a flawless sunset

El Estero

Surrounded by greenery, it is a bird watching paradise where the San Jose Estuary actually ends at the beach.

Playa Somar

Ideal for surfing, photography, sunbathing and whale watching, it is a Cabo San Lucas beach that is not one for swimming or snorkeling.

Santa Maria

If you are looking for iconic snorkeling experiences, this is the spot. Go on a weekday to avoid crowds and marvel at all of the tropical fish.

Playa Acapulquita

This is a charming and small beach near the Cabo Surf Hotel and steps from the famous 7 Seas Restaurant…enough said!

Playa Palmilla

Another small and charming beach, it is ideal for swimming and snorkeling and you will love watching the little fishing boats leaving the bay nearby.

Lover's Beach (Playa del Amor)

If you head to Land's End, (see below) this is "the" beach to visit as it can only be reached by water! It is a "must", but be ready to bring food, water and gear as there are no vendors here.

Mendano Beach

The most popular of all of the beaches in the area, it can be crowded and commercial, but also a fun experience while in the area.

Chileno

This is one of the few beaches of the Corridor and it is a wonderful find. Good for swimming and snorkeling, it has plenty of amenities, but plan your visit during the week as weekends find it very busy.

Surfing is also a major draw to the Baja peninsula, and whether you intend to give the waters a try or just watch experts strut their stuff, you may want to do so from Zippers, a waterfront restaurant at Mile 17 on the Corridor. You can take lessons, watch the pros glide along the waves and take in some of the tastiest food around. And with the mention of food, we need to look at the restaurants of Cabo.
